Exitreality recently launched in Closed Beta. (More on our launch can be found on the recently published article on Techcrunch and on the Exitreality Blog.)
As we have only recently gone live, we are keen to have feedback from users to help us fine tune/modify the platform in the lead up to the Public Beta.
Exitreality converts any website to 3D.
If you would like to see your site in 3D simply download the plug-in, visit your site in 2D then press the Exitreality button within the toolbar area on the browser.
OK, I like it, but here's my biggest problems which turn me away from this type of platform. They seem minor, but if you overcome them, it will make it a good thing.
1. Use a flash chat and IM system (not the ugly popup window)
2. Allow ability to sit on a chair
3. Allow avatars to interact. Kiss, hug, kick etc....
That will put it on par with other virtual worlds, otherwise, people will begin to complain about the (lack of) interactivity, and when you think about it... thats the reason people like virtual worlds.
SO far I find it to be excellent. It has an attractive and intuative interface. I ike the function where you can turn any web page into a 3D environment. 3B can do this but the experinece is pretty laggy and the technology seems proprietary. ExitReality does it with open technology and it is very smooth (at least on my machine). You can imbed a button on your website that will open it in ER's 3D form. All in all, pretty clever. It works well for me both on my home machine { Quad Core overclocked at 2.7Ghz per processor, 2 Nvidia 88oo GTS video cards, and 4 gig of ram), and my work machine {AMB 3500+ 64bit, Nvidia 128Meg card & 512 ram}. This is pretty interesting for me as I build in VRML and X3D and like to see new ideas in that direction, which gives hope that that technology isn't completely dead.
Works well, I have the button on my home page as well. It works well. All in all seems pretty stable, and I can get anything to crash, lol. Not all the images on my page show up in 3D, probably some of my code that's not quite right.
The interface is good, the chat window is a little awkward but OK for me as I use dual monitors. It would be nice to be able to see who is online and in worlds without using the buddy list. Easier to find people to turn into buddies :-). I have placed a couple of pics of my own worlds as seen in the ExitReality browser on my page here. Feel free to take a look.
I have been a little bit busy on SL but have placed a ExitReality button on my site - www.vDanceland.com and will go through my list of sites and add same.
Some of the spaces are incredible and I look forward to creating something equally cool one day! I must say that the ExitReality concept completely changes the way of visualising a new website.
Thanks for the update... and for adding Exitreality to your site. Brilliant...
For your virtual dance space... you may want to try the following from within the Exitreality platform...
- Search for ‘disco’ in Edit search for free disco ball and other decorations.
- Search for ‘dance’ in Edit search for free dance lounge and bar theme.
- Search for ‘club’ in Places Search for some inspirational ideas.
