Review of the latest 6 systems to embed your 3D world in your website or Facebook profile.
Lively, 3DXplorer, Vivaty, SceneCaster, ExitReality, and the ActiveWorlds plugin for Facebook.
Still playing with 3DXplorer, I have a soft spot for AW as I have been involved on & off with it for almost a decade. I really have hopes for ExitReality as it is the easiest (for me) to create for.
Well, that's a way to see it. But I don't think that there should be only one system. I don't believe in monopolies and central storage is not always bad. I think that having all the web in 3D is not mandatory.
I understand that all people dream with a totally free and opensource 3d web.
But things need money to be done, opensource projects too. And as long as people don't support that with donations, it is not possible.
And if we're saying that people must support economically the systems they like, then it's perfect that there are many ways to make web-3d solutions, paid or not.
So no need for a special architecture. I think we all benefit from competence and as long as there's no monopolized standard, there will be a lot of different solutions to choose from, don't you think?
These systems are mini-worlds, not big communities as SL. They aren't in direct competence with them. You can be in SL and also have a Vivaty world in Facebook, for example.
