New Xstreet-Second Life Policies, Is It More Than It Appears?

Very curious to know if anyone has an opinion about the new Xstreet policy changes being made by Linden Lab, Second LIfe, concerning Xstreetsl? It seems to have had an almost disastrous effect (from a user perspective) on the commerce aspect of the game in general and I'm curious to know if there are different viewpoints as to the direction Linden labs might be taking with the sweeping changes they have been making over the past couple of years, this being the most aggressive yet! I've posted the whole mess on my small network Vrtist in the forum. Let me know what you think. Speculation welcome!

I pulled all my stuff off XStreet, 300+ items, and am putting them o n 4 other market places. I won't trust to one market at any one time.
This follows on from Lindens willingness to bend over for corporations, while walking on those who make SL what it is.
Examples include adding mobile phone apps, while ignoring requests to fix chat problems and making lag much worse. That lag won't affect the corporations who run SL on their servers behind their own firewalls.
I'm actively looking for new virtual worlds to move to.

Wow! I can relate! I've become pretty disenchanted with SL myself over this Xstreet mess. It's funny cause everyone said the lindens would break Xstreet, and now it seems that they have. I too have been slowly moving my items over to Meta-life.net and am checking out Apez. Do you think there is an ultimate purpose to all these drastic maneuvers? Because they are really running over their the people who make SL what it is, maybe they are trying to turn SL into something else completely?

Since their founder lost control of his company, Linden Labs have been moving further away from the original concept of an open virtual world.
The new ones in charge are looking for anything they can slap a charge on, performance is worsening and Land prices have crashed. In some areas land is going for as little as $1 linden per sq metre.
I have no idea if there is an agenda, but I know Linden Labs have stopped the idea of crossing between virtual worlds and websites using 1 avatar. IBM had such an avatar ready to go it seems, but Lindens refused it. Maybe because they didn't have control of the avatars?
If Lindens think they'll go up the Dollar ratings because of attracting so many corporations to SL, then they're in for a shock and have short memories. Earlier this year several corporations dumped islands in SL and started this land crash and the collapse of all the businesses who traded in land.
I don't know what will happen next, but I think a new team to head Lindens is needed, preferably one who understands the vw concepts and has an idea to make SL better than it is now.

It's true! I've gotten free land, just having to pay for tier fees which have gotten higher to make up for the land value. Unfortunately I bought land before the crash, so I watched my investment plummet to zero like everyone else. As I watch Linden Lab become more aggressive toward their end user when every other tech app out there is trying to attract new users by offering free enticements of every kind (think ning for example), it really makes me think that they are going after a different type of clientèle, ones with deeper pockets. With the launch of Enterprize, it really seems like they are moving away from the little guy. Which is funny because Enterprize is a very sorry comparison for say something like Project Wonderland a much richer platform for b2b training and workshops than Enterprize, and even though it is still in the experimental stage it's prospects for being a truly interactive virtual environment for business, far outshine SL in SLs present stage of development. The things you can do in wonderland are NPISL ha!
Not that I'm a techie by any means, but just by watching wonderlands video, you get it's superior capabilities. At this moment SL has us by the..., well you know, because their are no other fully developed alternatives, but others are catching up pretty quick, and if SL continues to push their patient and very loyal customers away with all this craziness, one day SL will be just an interesting part of web 2.0 history and it will serve them right! It is such a shame though for those of us who have invested time, money and energy into creating the magic of SL and it's difficult to psych up to begin anew on another platform. /me sighs. Oh well, such is technology in general right? All these rapid changes are making me dizzy! : ))))
