Association of Virtual Worlds

The Business & Social Network

Okay, no particular order. VW have been around about 15 years, great worlds have gone due to lack of VC, new ones have popped up and finally - making money and going mainstream. Share you list of VW here for others who may not yet have expored them and feel free to make comments on your experiences.

We just launched in Closed Beta... Exitreality.

Not a Virtual World as such... but a browser based plug-in for viewing 3D content and enabling quick and easy 'mini' virtual world creation.

As a starter... it converts any website into a basic virtual worlds environment that the site owner can then decorate using stock objects... or develop custom 3D content for using a wide variety of open standards.

To sign up for the Closed Beta (free) visit the Exitreality Sign-up page.

We also have a blog that keeps users up to date and allows for feedback/comments.

The Blaxxun servers are down (Again). They are down more than they are up anymore. Bad news for world builders (Myself included) and developers. Kind of why I have high hopes for ExitReality

Also you should look at maidmarian.com. Up until recently basically a MMORPG, but they now have "Club Marian". More of a chat/MU environment. All based on Shockwave. Runs smooth. You can chat, the avatars have some movement commands (Dance, ect) and you can drive a sports car around.

Everyone knows Google has joined the metaverse but I don't see it listed here.....
Lively at http://www.lively.com/html/landing.html
Primitive atm and appears to need us devs to go in and make some purty clothes, furnishings and spaces but I'm sure they have grand plans.
Good luck picking a user name, it appears you'll be competing against the entire g-mail user base!

Another "Oldie but Goodie" is "Worlds.com." Been an on & off member for a long time there. It's one of the originals.

I have to admit it: bluemars is pretty cool! Great graphics but best of all is the easy easy navigation.

Hey right back :D
Say, there's a pretty good chance that I can relaunch the OzGate Europe DigitalSpace Traveler site with the help of my good friends at HUMlab (Umeå University, Sweden) Just thought I'd let ya know, keep your fingers crossed!
