Okay, no particular order. VW have been around about 15 years, great worlds have gone due to lack of VC, new ones have popped up and finally - making money and going mainstream. Share you list of VW here for others who may not yet have expored them and feel free to make comments on your experiences.
Not a Virtual World as such... but a browser based plug-in for viewing 3D content and enabling quick and easy 'mini' virtual world creation.
As a starter... it converts any website into a basic virtual worlds environment that the site owner can then decorate using stock objects... or develop custom 3D content for using a wide variety of open standards.
The Blaxxun servers are down (Again). They are down more than they are up anymore. Bad news for world builders (Myself included) and developers. Kind of why I have high hopes for ExitReality
Also you should look at maidmarian.com. Up until recently basically a MMORPG, but they now have "Club Marian". More of a chat/MU environment. All based on Shockwave. Runs smooth. You can chat, the avatars have some movement commands (Dance, ect) and you can drive a sports car around.
Everyone knows Google has joined the metaverse but I don't see it listed here.....
