Are you teaching a class in a virtual world?

If so, we would like your students to fill out a quick survey on their learning experience. The online survey is confidential and anonymous and only takes 10 to 15 minutes to complete.

More Information

This is an Athabasca University research project. AU is Canada's open university and has an international reputation in distance education. We are working to develop tools that allow researchers, teachers and students to assess the learning that occurs in formal education courses conducted using Second Life. This particular survey measures community of inquiry (http://www.communitiesofinquiry.com) from a student's perspective.

Suggested Email to students

"Please take 10 or 15 minutes to fill out this online survey about your learning experience in a virtual world. The survey is to be completed anonymously and your answers to this survey will not be shared with teachers or others from your educational institution. The survey is located here:

There is an opportunity to win a Digital Flip CamCorder!

Thanks"

Thank you for helping us in this research project. The results of our study will be available for those that ask. If you have any questions about the study or if you want the results when they are available, please contact rossm@athabascau.ca

Check out the Federal Consortium for Virtual Worlds conference April 23-24. We have a wiki, email list and facebook portal to connect people. The Education/training working group is the largest and most active in the community. Our College is exploring virtual worlds as life long learning tools that can encompass a continuum. Our first project is a community of practice for the government chief financial community.

Hi, anyone have links to review papers on the benefits of virtual worlds/3D interactive classrooms versus traditional classrooms?

A new internet TV program launches on February 1st that delves into how people spend their lives online. Life On Line, as the name suggests is about how people are increasingly spending more of their lifetime using the internet .

The TV show is the brain-child of Australian journalist and communications consultant Steve Cropper, who in 2008 was 'Angelico Babii', host of the LATE SHOW on Metaverse-TV (www.metaverse-tv.com) and the creator of My-Metaverse (www.my-metaverse.com) a social network for people involved in the new media arts on the web.

Please visit our viewers' group website at www.life-on-line.ning.com for details and I invite you to join and be part of this new internet TV show.

Spread the word :) Enjoy!

I have begun to teach in an Arts Education Centre that we have built on Deakin island in Second Life. Getting started, having students ( undergraduate) explore identity through the selection and refining of their avatars has been an interesting experience. Now for the good part, collaborative learning, role playing and simulations, we are planning an in world and real world exhibition of student artworks at the end of the semester
