Virtual Worlds have required extensive development of technology in an extremely short period of time. As a result, the foundation technologies did not have time to become mature; standards not established and we have seen hundreds of different proprietary / non-communicating/ virtual worlds, while needs for web 2.0 models P2P architectures and social networks are pushing for scalable, accessible web-native virtual worlds.
What do you think?
I use my Second Life gallery as a 3D website, I invite potential agents or buyers to meetings in my gallery where they can see exactly what I'm talking about. I can pick up paintings or pottery and spin them, re-texture them as clients ask and do it in front of them in real time.
I've always said linking3D worlds to 3D websites and to peoples pcs or macs is the next best step, and most logical. Being able to move between worlds and real life, buying digital or real goods and asessing goods and services from the computer will be the next step forward. It is self financing, after a short period for people to see how it goes, and it will roll on gathering speed and being more popular. Accessibility is the key here, link this into a home pcs abilities and you really open things up.
Imagination is hampered by technology, lets free it.
