My "ultimate virtual world" would be an MMOG version of Elder Scrolls: Oblivion. It isn't about it being fantasy but the gameplay. I love the "twitchy-style" play which means I'll always have a chance against other players even though they may play the game 20 hours out of every 24. As it stands now, current level systems mean that in pvp, someone who is a higher level than you can kill you easily by simply clicking on you and shooting an arrow or casting a spell...both of which are directed to their target by the game. In Oblivion, you actually have to aim your arrow or spell. In short, if someone wants to kill you, they should have to work for it. And in a system like this, newbies (or players that only play casually) can stand a chance against veterans. Newbies may still lose due to their opponent's skill, but the outcome of such a battle isn't a foregone conclusion as with current level-based games.
